I have just had an experience that no customer should have to experience. I booked a flight for my parents and aunt from Ireland and it was cancelled without notification despite a mail being sent called "Confirmation of online booking". I will never fly with SAA again. I had to pay an additional 15000zar to rebook my parents from Ireland at the last minute. SAA's customer care is appalling and they have no consideration for the customer. I received a booking number and a "Bon Voyage" final salutation. How can this company get away with this? All they state in the "confirmation of online booking" email is that if you have not received your etickets in 12 hours to contact a local SAA office. There is no mention of unilateral cancellation. SAA really disrespect customers and it's only when a situation like this arises that one can appreciate that fact. Please be very aware that even if you have a confirmation email and it looks like a sound booking SAA will tell you firmly that "you did not adhere to regulations" and welcome you on board soon. I asked other airlines if this is standard practice. They said certainly not. Will I book with SAA?? - never again!!!
