After years of visiting the KNP, this was by far the most disappointing stay in any camp, ever. For the flagship camp, Skukuza's standards are severely lacking when it comes to the tented camps and camping accommodations. We saved for 5 years to go and enjoy, relax and unwind from the stresses of Jo'burg life, only to get to our tented camp to a badly eroded road leading to our site. Then having had to wait until 14h00 to book in, the tent had not even been swept out. Not a great start and it would only get worse. There was a stranded shopping trolley which seems to have made a new home as for 6 nights and 7 days it was not moved. Discarded rubbish was also not cleaned up then entire stay. The one bed in the tent was broken, the cupboard felt like it was going to collapse ever time you opened it, the door to the tent creaked (CRC would fix it), the bin outside was overflowing with ash from the braai's and was left like that for the duration of our stay, the toilets were not serviced as noted every hour with one of the hand dryers even falling off the wall. Add to that, one goes to the park to listen to the bush, not noise from the staff accommodations right next to our accommodation until 21h00 at night, with a daily soccer game at around 16h00 every day. Our linens and towels were not changed once either. The reception staff could work on their surliness too. Most people travel a long way to get to camps and a friendly face when checking in would be nice. It only seems to be at Skukuza as staff all round the rest of the camps we stopped in at were friendly, smiley and welcoming. Malelane gate and Kruger gate also need to be addressed. having private conversations when there is a customer in front of them is wildly inappropriate. On the positive side, the picnic site staff were pleasant and the game viewing was the best experienced in the many years of visiting our jewel in the crown of tourism.
