Website booking gone wrong - fees to change

Good day.

i have made a booking via your website and as normal it is very easy and user friendly. But on our return flight I naturally assumed that the month the calendar was in was the current one, and for some reason it seems it was next months calendar. Thus I made booking for the wrong monday next month. I understand it was my wrong, I believe the website should have kept my return month to be on the current month. But I changed it now after realizing it (like a week before the flight) and I have to change R 600 for that change! that is a basically a whole ticket! I mean look at these costs
new trip 5024 ZAR
original trip (4706 ZAR)
change fee 600 ZAR
change fee taxes 84 ZAR

The difference between original trip and new one is acceptable and I will pay that no worries, but NOW I have to pay 600 for a trip a MONTH ahead that is cancelled??? Come on this is just not fair or makes any sense at all.
