Charging double for a finger fault

A domestic flight booking was made on 24 Feb 2013 at 23h40 and the wrong date was accidentally used for the booking.
An effort was made immediately after the credit card payment (on the 24th) to rectify the mistake, but due to no-one being available after hours, feedback was only given the next day.
Due to the fact that correspondence only then occurred on the next calendar day; Travelstart was unwilling to void the ticket and charged me 95% of the original costs (additional) to change the date of the flight.
They claim that I should have used the "Urgent" correspondence option on the website, but in my mind it was not "Urgent" as no-one was about to miss a flight and I was unaware of the voiding policy which requires correspondence within the same calendar day.
I am now paying more than double I would've paid.
The commission paid to Travelstart makes no sense (I could have gone straight to the airline and saved myself a LOT OF TROUBLE).
