Lack of communication with very poor service

Arrived at 17h55 at OR Tambo airport for flight SA234 leaving 20h45 for London Heathrow, on Sunday 1st September 2013. Self service check- in advised guests they were on standby. Manual check- in queue mixed up with domestic check in queue. After about an hour reached check-in only to be told my guests were on standby as SAA had OVER BOOKED the flight! They were in TEARS as both had commitments the next day in the UK. SAA supervisor recommended they wait for a cancellation in business class but as there were already four people waiting, didn't give much hope of getting on the flight. They finaly left, goodbyes said in a rush, in economy class, seated apart, about 19h30. Couldn't credit that duty free did NOT STOCK South African 'OLD BROWN SHERRY'. What a disastrous end to what had been a fantastic holiday. Sadly it's the ending that will be remembered the most!!!
