I have (had) been a member of the exec club for YEARS. Never really worried about it as I focused the bulk of my travel to other Airlines.
However been using BA about 2x month the last 3 years. So quite a number of these miles (when I bothered to swipe) had piled up. On a flight to Cape Town (From Durban) I just did not feel like the cramped space on the return flight. Hence I decided to try and use these wonderfull miles. I phoned the call center 4 x times and hung up after 30 min as I was using a mobile phone. After a marathon 55 min 5th call, someone answered. Their excuse - They were "busy"... I asked to use my miles to upgrade and before I even completed my sentence the responce was that the Business class was full with no seats available. When I was on the flight I noticed that there were 4 people in business class. So your operator to me!
Once again I was forced to fly BA due to lack of other seats. This time to JHB. I knew the flight was going to be full, hence as I arrived in Jhb I made the dreaded call. Likely only a 55 min wait. Again the responce was the flight was full. Once again actually only 6 people in BC. to me again.
