Do you know what is in their terms and conditions?

I purchased airline tickets for a group of people for a golf tour to Durban. In total I purchased 9 tickets.
We had some people have to cancel the golf tour, so as a result I looked to see if I could cancel the tickets and pay the cancelation fee.

When Ispoke to the call centre agent, I was advised that the tickets where non-refundable tickets. The agent explained that this was in the terms and conditions. As I couldnt cancel the deals, instead of losing the money I would change the tickets for another date. I was advised that the tickets could be changed, but it would cost me half the price of the ticket to make the date change. However, I was then told that the name on the ticket could not be changed either. This apparently is also in the terms and conditions of the booking.

What was so frustraing was that I was contacting the airline a month and a half ahead of the flight. Should I be coming a week or two before the time, I can understand the rationale. As I couldnt cancel the tickets, or change the name the only option for me was to give up the tickets and apply for my taxes back. I was told it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get refunded.
