I took a contract out with MTN 2 years ago. The contract was R249 p/m which included R100 airtime, 25 sms's and BIS. The contract came to an end on 20 January 2013. I was then debited R308 every month since. I called MTN when I noticed this in April. They told me the reason for the increase was because my contract ended and they were now charging me for BIS. I wasn't happy as MTN never informed me and just started debiting me extra for BIS. If I had known about these extra costs, I would have cancelled my contract. Following a number of calls to MTN, without success in getting my money back, I immediately cancelled my contract and later that day loaded R90 airtime to the in order to use my BIS again. When I tried to activate my BIS I received a notification that I had insufficient airtime. I then checked my balance and saw that I only had R10 left. When I queried it with MTN, they told me that they will not refund my airtime as it got cancelled with the contract. I want my R90 airtime back and I want the R177 (R59 x 3) that they debited off extra off my bank account since February 2013. My last reference number with MTN helpline was 655683933.
