I asked for a data transfer from my old blackberry to my update in January at the Vodacom Shop. Not only did they fail to tell me that I could simply call in to Vodacare and have the transfer done (which would have saved me much time AND I would not have been charged) but when the phone turned out to be faulty (literally less than a week later) and it had to have the software cleared, they could not aid the Vodacom repair shop in transferring the data to the new phone. It took me 4 months of calling continually between two shops that were less than a stone's throw away from one another for them to establish that they had effectively lost the data. Then they tell me I could just call Vodacare for free to get the transfer done. The Vodacom Repairs store in Nelson Mandela Square was no better.

From previous experience with the gross incompetence of the Vodacom staff, the poor level of staff training is a general problem. It seems to depend on luck as to whether or not your time, money and effort is met with informed (of not quick and efficient) service or ends in literally months of inconvenience, frustration and wasted money.
