I'm a contact point for an NPO, & I have ~500 people directly reporting to me & have a defining influence over thousands of adults & school pupils alike! We use a cell phone to communicate with these ~500 people. I have been issued with an old handset & an MTN SIM card. The SIM is fine, but the handset is physically worn out & requires replacement.

I approached MTN in Cape Gate to buy a new handset. They captured my name & ID number - verbally from me, not read from my ID - & asked if I stay in Brackenfell! I've never lived in Brackenfell! They patently have my ID number associated with an address in Brackenfell! ID shenanigans?

They insisted on my street address for RICA. I reminded them only SIM cards must be RICAd & handsets do not need to be RICAd. They said the handset comes with a SIM card. I told them to remove it & then sell the handset without it! They said the handset must be pinged with the SIM card!

1. How did you associate my ID number with an address in Brackenfell?
2. Why do you hoodwink your customers about handsets needing to be RICAd?
3. Handsets are frequently replaced WITHOUT A NEW SIM CARD! There is NO LAW that requires handsets to be sold with SIM cards
