The impact of the Seacom cable on the network of MWEB is understandable and I am quite willing to accept my traffic being shaped or throttled until the services are restored.
However, our experience over this weekend has been terrible. Instead of shaping traffic we are experiencing downtime on manyapplications such as Steam, Skype, Origin, Google Maps, App Stores etc. Browsing grinds to a halt from time to time. Download is a no-go.
Based on the experience we and others are having one has to conclude that MWEB is relying to heavily on SEACOM for capacity. SEACOM is probably the #1 newsmaker for cable downtime which begs the question why MWEB is reliant on infrastructure that is known to be problematic.
Please don't patronise your customers with the usual "We regret the degredation... we value your input...", rather fix your network to deal with these outages like all the other major ISP's are doing. Stop passing the buck, other ISP's are managing why not MWEB?
Footnote: I've been on Afrihost most of the weekend without so much as a hitch. If they can do it, I believe MWEB should too.
