When I signed an initial cell phone contract with MTN, I ported my Vodacom cell phone number to MTN. I am currently on my 3rd contract with MTN and I have settled each and every account on time.

My issue occurred when VVM (Debt collection) attorney contacted me (not sure of the exact date but it was in year 2011) to inform me that I have an outstanding amount on my cell phone contract with MTN and I need to settle the account. After investigating the issue, I learned that the contract in question had a 083 cell phone number. I never signed any cell phone contract with MTN for 083 cell number. I spent fair amount of time investigating further by calling MTN call centre and I further learnt that MTN made a mistake and this was confirmed by the supervisor of the call centre and he assured that he will take it further. It was clear to me that this did not happen as to date VVM is still harassing me. Every time VVM contacted me, I requested them to contact MTN as mistake was made by MTN and I had nothing to do with the issue.

My concern is that I do not want to be reported to the credit bureaus which will affect my credit rating for something that I have not done.
