Slow battery replacement

I needed a new battery for HTC phone. Vodacom had no stock at Fourways, so I placed an order via a Repair Log. After a week, no-one was able to tell me when I could expect my new battery, but that it was on back order at Head Office, what ever that may mean.

I then went onto the web and within a few minutes had established that stock existed in Midrand, around the corner from Vodacom, and that I could collect at any time, which I duly did.

How can I, as a layman off the street, get a battery in the time it takes me to drive to Midrand, but after a week, Vodacom cannot even tell me when I will receive a new battery?
