Problem Charging

HI I handed a phone in to be fixed because it was not charging a while ago. I received the the phone and it was working for a little while and when i left it for about a month and wanted to use it again the battery was flat. when i put it in to charge it did not want to charge. in between the time from the first time the problem happened and the second time the screen got damaged but this did not affect the device in any way as it was still usable it would still charge. when the problem happened again i handed the device in i said that i did not want the screen fixed but want the problem of the charging to be fixed it was rejected. I was told that the screen must be fixed for them to fix the charging. This was a preexisting problem where the device did not want to charge and i want it corrected. I am not worried about the screen i just want the problem that i first had with the device to be corrected.
