Device fee rip-off

I have taken out a contract on a Samsung S4 on 29th January 2014. I received a bill totalling R648-58 for my first month which will be the end of February 2014. I was shocked to notice I was charged a device fee for the whole of January (1-31) of R270. The total contract amount is R369.

On further enquiry I was told that this is how telkom works even if I had signed up for just one hour in the month I would have to pay a device fee of the whole month as Telkom does not charge this pro-rata. I was not told about this by the consultant that signed me up at Rosebank otherwise I would have waited a few more days. Now I will pay a device fee for 25 months if I cancel at end of January 2016. Nice work Telkom, very clever in the short run, but as stupid as in the long run.

This is really despicable and I am truely disgusted with Telkom. This was my first contract and will surely be my last. I will ensure nobody else falls in this disgusting trap, NOBODY SHOULD GET TELKOM CONTRACTS AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF THE MONTH, otherwise you will pay for in full. Looking at all the complaints here I wish I had come here first and would never have got a contract from Telkom Mobile.
