Shocking Latency

I purchased Telkom's ADSL package with the primary intent of playing games, and to do occasional browsing. A requirement of competitive gaming is a reasonable latency. Connecting to a Johannesburg server from Cape Town one would expect a latency somewhere between 30 and 60 ms (milliseconds).

Since I signed on with Telkom (1.5 years ago) the latency has gotten progressively worse. Now for the entire week and most of the weekend, my latency is between 500ms and 1500ms. IE. Unplayable.
I've tried calling the help desk and doing port resets: at best the latency improves for 2-3 days and then returns to absolutely unplayable.

After you try and once again fail to fix this I'll be taking the matter up with ICASA. This is just to show that I've tried other avenues to get you to comply. Hopefully, they'll hold you accountable for R600 a month and get you to upgrade your archaic exchange in Brackenfell, Cape Town. #holdingThumbs
