! Wanting money for 3G still under warranty

1. My soon to be wife took her 8ta 3G dongle that just all of a sudden stopped working to Telkom Direct at Irene Village Mall.
2. It is still under the 12 month warranty and we have all the slips to prove it as well.
3. On the job card it states that it is out of warranty.
4. Now there is some amount like R165 or R189 for a handling fee, and the status of the dongle is that it is beyond economical repair, so even if we pay that money we will still not get a working/replaced/new dongle.
5. We paid - R700 for that dongle and it's the 21mbps one.
6. Why is there a warranty on something and then still expect us to pay to get it fixed?? that doesn't make ANY sense! And then we are told IF we get a new one there is no new warranty on the new device. The assistance we received at Irene was great but the technicians have no clue what they are doing!
I want a NEW 3G dongle with the same speed and a new warranty on it. is wrong with you guys? should I get a lawyer involved to get the service we are paying for? I am not paying a sent for this dongle as it is still under warranty! job number is PRE141317, This WILL be resolved before Friday, If not I will take this to the papers. FIX IT
