Lose airtime i paid for already on top up contract

My cellphone contract is due for upgrade but i want to cancel it. I was told that i will loose all the airtime i have accumulated on my top up contract. This is not fair. I already paid for the airtime and now i am forced to stay on a month to month contract or cancel my contract and loose my airtime that i accumulated. This is disgusting service.
