My number got disconnected before I got new sim

I applied for a contract with MTN and was approved. I decided to keep my number but port from Cell C to MTN. I got an SMS the morning after I applied telling me my contract had been approved and the courier would be in touch to discuss drop-off details. Later on that same day I get another SMS telling me that my port to MTN was successful. In the evening at about 7:30 my number was disconnected from my old network without even so much as warning. Now I am stuck with a sim card that does not work and MTN still has not called me to set up when they will drop my phone off. When I called them I got some half-baked excuse about how I gave them permission to port my number. Yes, I did give them permission but that was because I know that the new sim is supposed to be delivered BEFORE they disconnect you from your old one! I have never been on MTN and after this I am sure I do not want to continue with them. If this is how they treat their customers then I do not want to join MTN. I am really disgusted and disappointed in their lack of common sense!
