Incompetent? Overworked? Or do they just not care?

I'm trying to cancel my Virgin contract. I phoned in the middle of October and was told that I had 10 phone lines allocated to my number and that they'd have to fix that problem first, and that they'd phone me back. After a few days I phoned again and they had no idea what I was talking about. Began the whole process again. They didn't phone. I phoned again. This time they had done the work of reducing the number of lines but nothing on the cancellation. Started that process again.By now it's near the end of November. I was told I'd get a call with the cancellation amount. Never got it. Phoned again. Still don't know it - had no idea I was trying to cancel. "Will phone back before the end of the day." Never phoned. Eventually I phoned back, was given a figure, asked for it emailed to me, they emailed it, I paid it. Never received confirmation. Emailed FIVE TIMES asking for confirmation - nothing. I've just received my November bill - no mention of the cancellation or the cancellation amount I paid. I am completely floored with frustration. It's because of this kind of attitude that I wanted to leave Virgin in the first place.
