I have a data contract with Vodacom which gives me 3 Gig any time data and 3 Gig night owl.

Two months ago, I unwittingly used up all of my 3 Gig data when my Ipad tried to do an automatic update and thereafter I was charged out of bundle rates. Unfortunately, this happened at 2 in the morning and I was sleeping, and so did not see the 3 or 4 warning sms' that I was now using out of bundle data. I have a R 50 call limit in place, which apparently is only a soft limit. This means that even if you reach the R 50 limit while you are connected it will keep going past your limit and only once your 3G connection drops will the limit be checked when you reconnect.By the time my connection dropped (or my Ipad had finished its update), I had accumulated almost R 500 worth of out of bundle data usage.

I find it ridiculous that Vodacom cannot implement something that automatically disconnects you when you have finished your bundle. I occasionally load data on a pay as you go sim card and when that data bundle is finished, then all of a sudden Vodacom can automatically stop my data usage. I don't see how the same system cannot apply to contract data. Stay away from data contracts!
