Serious Eazi Recharge Problems

This weekend, I noticed that R1 000 was missing from my Absa debit card account. Upon closer inspection of my bank statements, I saw that several debits had been made called POS MTN Eazi Recharge. R300 here, R200 there, etc.

I phoned the MTN call centre five times this morning and not one of the operators could give me accurate information as to how this could have happened. My card wasn't, nobody logged onto my internet banking. What happened?? They couldn't even tell me how to register for Eazi Recharge!

At Absa, they told me that this complaint is one they are very aware of and that many people have had this same thing happen to them with MTN Eazi Recharge.

I am posting this complaint because I'd like to know what your verification process entails for these kinds of transactions? Did anyone from MTN actually verify the account holder's identity? I'm sure these do not look or sound like a blonde, 20-something woman from Pretoria named L. du Plessis who does not and has never had a RICAd MTN SIM to her name.

Does this mean you can just deduct money without the valid FICA or RICA information?

Not impressed at all and would love to hear what you've got to say?
