I've heard NOTHING from MTN, so I'm re-posting my compliant. I will re-post it every 5 days until my problem is resolved: I don't use MTN for my bandwidth as I have switched to Afrihost (even though they use MTN's infrastructure and are hosted at the MTN data center). I noticed on receiving my MTN invoice this month that I've been charged R998.23 (excl. VAT) for packet-switched data calls. This is clearly impossible, as I don't use MTN as my data provider. Lo and behold, on seeing that my APN has changed to myMTN and doing some research, I've found that MTN silently rolls out carrier updates that override the APN! So because MTN don't notify you that the APN may be overrided, they can mess up the Afrihost APN at any time, and then charge you for out-of-bundle data. This is beyond scummy, it is fundamentally illegal (see: the Competition Act, No. 89 of 1998) as it enforces a monopoly by overriding my choice to use a different data provider. Fix my bill, MTN, and do it fast!
