What was i paying for?

My number was suspended because i have not been paying for the past 7 months as i lost my job, but last month i started a new job and paid all th money i was owing and they activated my account, now the thing is they didnt give me the airtime for those months, i called MTN and they told me that i wont get the airtime for those months yet they needed money for those months and i asked does it mean that i was paying for nothing because i was not receiving the services, but the answer i got was "you were payiing because you have a contract with MTN"why dont they also do the same because they neeeded money for all those previous months, please give me my airtime i cant pay for nothing if ithat is the case you should not have told me to pay for those months. i believe that you still want me to pay until the end of my contract and want me to upgrade so fix this because if its not fixed month end i am not going to pay.
