Misleading customers and making them pay for it

I upgraded my contract from a on 9 Sept at Sandton City. A guy by the name of Sean helped me.
He explained to me that I would be allocated a certain amount of data. He specifically said that after it was depleted I would not be able to access the Internet and would need to buy data. He said I could call 808 for balances etc - which makes sense for me because I was on a Blackberry and I don't want to start spend ridiculous amounts on data, and on a cellphone in general.
Imagine to my shock having my phone disconnected and being told that I owe MTN over R1K just for data spent over 3weeks. Shocking when this is definitely NOT what was explained to me when I was asked to sign the contract and is subsequently not what I signed up for.
Another surprising thing is that Sean told me I would need to buy data because I would only get data after the 20th and bought some so I could access internet in the mean time. I'm not sure if it was actually loaded and he did the transaction for me. Because I could access the internet - I took it that it was in fact loaded. If I am not mistaken I used my bank card.
It's unacceptable & not prepared to pay that amount for data under these circumstances
