I had the displeasure of "Upgrading" my data contract with MTN. Not only did it take nearly two hours to do what should have been a simple task, I was then provided with a product that doesn't work!
The modem was supposed to be faster (LTE) and one would hope at least as good as the older one. I enquired about LTE availability in my area and was informed that I had.
On connecting it I was unable to get it to connect to MTN, let alone the internet. At best I managed to get two bars of signal strength, but was not able to get useable connectivity. I tried using a 6dB gain GSM antenna, but it ignored that. I spent well over an hour on the phone to the "Help Centre" (including being transferred to the wrong person (twice) or simply cut off) trying to get it to work.
Having tried everything to avoid having to go back to MTN, I admitted defeat and took it back. Notwithstanding the fact that I have wasted hours of my life on trying to get the modem to work and then had to drive the piece of plastic back to the shop, I now have to wait for MTN to decide if I can get one that works and will probably be expected to collect it.
Porting my other contract is now out of the question!
