WIFI not working after installation of Telkom ADSL

I signed up for the Telkom Simple Plus package on the 30th July 2013. The package is R499/month includes 2MB line, 10GB capped ADSL including:

* Telkom Landline rental
* Free landline and ADSL installation (New customers only)
* Free 3G dongle
* Free WiFi modem

I completed my self install yesterday evening with the help of the Internet call centre. The Internet access was really quite fast while the router is connected to the laptop with the yellow Ethernet cable. So far so good.

Once the cable is disconnected there is no Internet whatsoever. The little WIFI icon shows "No internet Access" when I mouse over it. I intended to use the internet ONLY with WIFI and never with the short little cable. The call centre lady insists that my Telkom reception is not good and that's causing the problem.

I disagree as I moved the laptop all around the house and outside and I got ZERO reception anywhere. The router has not been setup correctly and I will have to cancel this whole deal if I'm forced to sit 1m away from the router (in the passage) to access the Internet.

I need someone from Telkom to assist me with setting up the WIFI correctly please.
