Telkom
ADSL Service

Since December 2012 my 1024Kb down/512Kb up ADSL line has had intermittent service. CellC and Telkom mobile seem the only reliable broadband services in Prestondale. Since 15 July I have had poor ADSL service. On 20 July Telkom tested my line with their and my MWeb ADSL account. Both indicated a satisfactory 800Kb down and 400Kb up speed with latencies of 60 ms. My 6 year old NetGear DG834 ADSL modem was faulty and was replaced with a spare Belkin ADSL modem I had. Although this modem showed a 1023Kb down and 507Kb up speed, Internet access was slow. An iPad [URL Removed] showed an 80Kb down and 400Kb up speed with a latency of about 100ms. I then tried to connect my laptop using the Ethernet cable connection and was unable to get internet access - either using its WiFi or Ethernet cable connection. As recomended by Telkom, I bought a new Telkom NetGear N300 ADSL2 DGN2200 modem with a backup 3G connection from Telkom in Gateway. Connecting the ADSL cable caused the modem to reset and the line to drop - 3 times in 1 hour. Use of the backup 3G connection alone allowed 2 hours use before the line reset. I would appreciate help as I pay about R400/month for very poor service.
