SMS's not used although paid for, just forfeited

I have a Straightup 200 account, but do not use all the 200 sms's every month. Therefore after a few months (over 90 days) there is always a carry over, UP to a maximum of 200 sms's. There rest is forfeited. Why. These are paid for in the contract. Surely they can be converted into airtime?
