Turns out Sidefree's response to this complaint was a lie, no stock was in store. As "compensation" he said that if she ordered through Cell C Direct he will not charge for delivery, sim and contract. These are all standard terms of service through Cell C Direct. None of these "compensations" are in fact compensations.
I also explained that this the advertisements constitute inaccurate advertising falling fowl of Department of Trade and Industry's Consumer rights. He turned hostile and resorted to ignoring me and repeatedly shouting that "This is not a breach of contract" and "Seems you don't really want the handset" I got bored of correcting each in turn over and over again so I terminated the call.
In retrospect I think he realised that he won't get a positive and refused to hang up so that he won't get a negative rating on his service.
Is my experience with Sidefree what Cell C wants for customers? Then I can tell my mother to go back to Vodacom.
