Dad trying to settle dead wife's contract

My dad is trying to resolve a cell contract after he stopped payment for his wife's cell phone. She died in Nov 2011. He stopped paying in July 2012 (after cancelling the sim in Jan '12 and trying unsuccessfully to cancel the contract). He's been told he is obliged to honour the contract, but has not been able to get a final statement or actual details on the last 2-year contract, i.e. how much it was for and when it was due to end. His wife got her upgrade/renewal sometime mid-2011, so presumably it should have ended sometime mid-2013. All we have had so far is a Vodacom statement billing 4 months of installments from when he stopped paying (July-Aug 2012 @ R439 per month), plus 4 line items on their legal/collection agency's letterhead titled "capital", "BOC", "Costs" and "Discount" amounting to R7068.88. The agency eventually supplied the original contract from 2003 but this is old information & does not help with understanding how they came up with the final amount. My attempts (phone calls, emails to both Vodacom legal and the collection agency) to get a full, final Vodacom invoice - and not simply amounts on another firm's letterhead - have been fruitless.
