How long does it take to process a new contract??

Signed up for a 7.5gb SmartInternet Month to Month Contract with Telkom Mobile Cavendish Square yesterday (About 6pm). Was told that my documentation would first have to be submitted to the head office for checks etc and that this would only happen the following morning. Fair Enough.

It's now 14:30 and contract still has not been activated. Just phoned the Telkom store in Cavendish Square and they say the documentation has been submitted to the "back office" in Pretoria and this can take up to 72 hours to process?? Huh? Why so long?

With my previous cell phone contracts (with other cell providers) the SimCard was activated within an hour of me signing the paperwork and leaving the store.

So just want to find out why the long delay with Telkom Mobile?
