Paying for contract that was explicitly cancelled!

I had a 2-year contract which expired on 13-04-2013 and I was ANGRY and FRUSTRATED to see that even after making sure I was informed by MTN staff of the cancellation procedure, having executed the said procedure and then confirmed that it will expire, I am still being charged for the contract after the expiry date.

As I am outside of the country it is proving difficult to call the customer service numbers provided to find out what's going on and my email has gone unanswered for a few days now.

To put some facts down...

I wrote an email to MTN on 2012/11/23 5:14:56 PM via their web form with the following text:
"Subject: Cancellation of Contract; Body: Please do not renew the contract for 073XXX (erased for purpose of posting). Please confirm that you have received this request and include the date of the termination of the contract."

I received the following reply on 24/12/2012 10:07 AM: "Please note that your contract number 073XXX will expire on 2013-04-13, to cancel we require 30/90 days notice. Reference Number: 5985536"

I'm no expert at contracts but I would consider my email as notice and as such would expect the contract to be terminated.
