During a general inquiry i was informed that i qualify for a premature upgrade on my data bundle contract. This was due to average usage of more that R1300. It would mean that i could get a device plus a 3GB bundel for R499 per month (currently paying almost same for 2GB bundle). I made about 2 further telephonic inquiries and 2 instore inquiries before i settled on a device and decided to do the premature upgrade. Almost at the point that i was about to put pen on paper the consultant told me that since the upgrade is 8 months premature my new contract will now run for 32 months and that on top of the R499 i will still be paying for my tablet from the previous contract for next 8 months (an additional R320).

What exactly is the point - why would i sign up for another 32 months at an additional R320 per month if the idea is actually to reward me for being a good client and lock me in for another contract period. At this rate i can just as well go and purchase a new device for less and not have the burden of a contract.
