My wife has been receiving harassing calls (contract is in my name) from a person who claims she was in a car accident with him (my wife was not involved in any accidents). This harasser had only a cellphone number for the other party in this alleged "accident".
Suddenly, today, the harasser disclosed that he had MY name, my employer name, my address and my ID number which he got from "Rica", based on my wife's cellphone number.
However the rica system does not store employer names, but Cell C does since the number is on a Control Chat 300 contract.
Furthermore, since the number is used exclusively by my wife, no third-party knows that the Cell C contract is, in fact, held in my name.
This leads to the disturbing conclusion that my personal details may have been leaked by someone with access to Cell C's systems. Despite reassurances from the call centre today, that strict measures are in place, I am not at ease.
I therefore request that Cell C determine if my contract details may have been accessed by an unauthorised person in recent weeks.
