I'd number not sufficient

Received a voice automated call saying that account is in arrears after receiving a SMS from vodacom, the day before at 12:08pm saying "thank you for payment". We then dialed the call centre for more information once we spoke to a consultant we verified telephone number and I'd number and consultant refused to assist us any further with information because she needed the account number as well stating that the I'd number is not sufficient and further more she wanted to know if we had any benefits in our account as well as what type of account it was. Since when is an I'd number and telephone number not sufficient to prove you are the correct account holder? The consultant was rude. I will also think about whether at the end of contract whether vodacom is also sufficient enough for me.
