Sim swap victim resulting in R6200 bill

It seems that after 2 and a golf years of having an MTN SIM card and not using it once as it was a 2nd number I was shocked when I was called up saying that my MTN Account had been in arrears for 3 months and that I now owed R6200!
I thought this was a joke as I had not used that sim since I leafed my old job in August 2012, as the contract was due for cancelation in December I thought that the contract would be cancelled as to my 24 months contract being over, but it seems that in this could try 24 months means whenever you cancel it (after the 24 months.

So since I assumed the contract was canceled and unusable I did not use the SIM card at all.
But now it had been brought to my attention that the SIM card had appeared in someone else's phone all of a sudden.
As I know that the phone contract was taken through Nashua Mobile I still believe that I was a victim of the MTN scandal that I've read about in the papers.
However, it doesn't matter if that's the case as I have been told if Ido not pay this money I will be blacklisted.
So not only are they forcing me to pay for calls I never made, no one will even try to see what happened with this sim .!!
