I have made several calls to cancel the contract, initially (Sept 2012) when I wanted to cancel it immediately (I had lost my sim card) I was told I will have to pay a huge lumpsum so I opted to wait until end of the contract to terminate, and was advised to call 3 months prior the end of contract (which was 06 Jan 2013) to put in a termination notice. when I called 3 months before the end of contract, I remember it was a Sunday. The lady I found at the call center told me no it doesnt have to be 3 months I can call even a month before the contract ends.
I called beginning of December to terminate the contract, the guy I spoke to said okay he has set up my account to be terminated/deactivated at the end of iits contract and he actually advised me to quickly go and do a sim swap before the 21 Dec and utilize the airtime that is available on worth approximately R600-R700.
Today I receive an email that I'm owing MTN, I must pay for Jan 2013. When I call, the agent tells me he will deactivate now but I will still be liable for this invoice and the Feb invoice.
this is not right... I cancelled this contract well in time! is this how really customers are supposed to be treated?
