Failure to disclose terms of contract

I recently lost my phone and called MTN to do a sim swap. MTN told me that they could not do the sim swap for me because I had a contract with Edgars for R50 a month/ OTA. The only way I could do a sim swap was to go to Edgars directly. I went to Edgars at Carnival and the lady who helped me said that I had to go to Nashua & pay R150 for them to do the sim swap, so I thought to myself why don't I just cancel the whole OTA airtime contract and call MTN again for the sim swap because I did not have R150 then. So today I call edgars to cancel the contract and they give me another number to call (0861788211). I call this number and the first time nobody answers. I call again and a lady there helped me. She tells me that someone is going to call me about cancelling, then she asks me how long I have had this contract. I tell her about 2 or 3 months thereabout. She tells me that I cannot cancel until after 6 months and I have to go and pay the R150. Hw come I was never told about all this when I signed up for this offer? Nobody ever told me that if I lose my phone I will have to pay R150 for a sim swap or that I can only cancel after 6 months otherwise I would never hev accepted this
