Not Collecting and now holding me responsible

On the 08/02/2010 I received a package via courier, in this package was a cellphone (Nokia 2330 Classic nr
074 121 6573) from Altech Autopage, service provider Virgin Mobile.
I then realised that other service providers are giving better deals on the same phone package, i decided not to keep the phone and called them back the very next day!

I phoned Virgin Mobile at 074 1000 123 and told the person i don't want the phone any more and I gave my reason. She then told me arrangement will be made for the phone to be picked up which is still sealed in its package.
It never happened, i have a list of dates, times and ref numbers but to no avail.
Now they call me and want to take legal action, when I told the gentleman that they said they would pick up
the phone he said no it was my responsibility to return the phone but their is no return address and every time I phoned I was told I should wait they will collect. It never happened. The phone is still sealed in its box and the SIM card as well, I am not paying for this!!!
