Poor Service - MTN / Poor Quality - Blackberry

My Son is due to upgrade his cellphone contract at the end of May. The Blackberry 9780 that he received on this contract had been replaced 6 times though out the past 19 months, due to the poor quality. At this point in time the phone is giving problems again and we went to MTN to find out if we could upgrade earlier (2 weeks). They claimed that the system was offline after we have waited in the que for more than an hour. The lady then said we need to phone the MTN call centre and ask if we can upgrade earlier, because even if we send the phone in again for repairs it will only be returned in 2 weeks time. We Then phoned the MTN call centre and spoke to Thabo who was not very helpful, said there is nothing he can do as the system dictates the upgrade date. I then asked him if there is not someone that can override this date, due to the fact the Blackberry phone they gave us is giving us endless problems and he said "no". I am also in the service industry and know service is all about following policies and procedures and going the extra mile in assisting a customer due to the poor quality of the equipment and the type of service expected for what you pay for.
