Expensive and costly phone replacement

Since 2012 when I got the blackberry 9900, I have changed the unit 5 times. This has been a costly exercise and business challenge. I am also told that I can't change the phone because its a contract and mtn will only repair and replace. 5 times its been. The money I spend on petrol and parking fees is a challenge. The present unit is also a problem. Is this what we get as customers. I change from vodacom to MTN because of their coverage but this contract is straining me. I use the phone for business but its not working well. Can someone please help me resolve this challenge? 5 phones in 15 months.
