BILLED FOR INTERNET FOR SIMCARD I DID NOT USE

Firstly I took out a contract with Autopage and the impression that I got was that it was my current Virgin mobile contract that was being upgraded with a better package. It did not turn out like that at all. I never used the sim card provided by them to avoid additional charges. Only maybe for emergencies. I paid monthly instalments which ranged between R100 and R300. That went on for a few months. Suddenly I received a bill for an amount of over R18 000.00 for one month! And this was only for internet usage. When I queried it with them they asked me whether I am sill in possession of the simcard and because I hardly used the simcard I was not sure and checked. I found that I do not have the simcard and they told me that I will be held liable for the amount because I did not report it lost or. My question is how can a person report something lost or if they were not aware of it being lost. For all I know the sim is still in my posession, but dont know where. I would like to have this sorted out ASAP, because there is no way that I am going to pay this ridiculous amount and for some service I did not make use off. I have attorneys on my back because of this
