I have been a paying member of this gym for 7 years now, and have seen my fees go up substantially each year in Jan. I use the gym 5-6 times per week, and have watched it get more and more crowded, while there is almost NO investment in improving or expanding the gym. Despite the new Virgin Active opening across town in Waterstone a few years ago, our gym on the N2 has continued to get more crowded, and more dilapidated. Our machines are old (and often a treadmill will be broken down for weeks at a time), we have only a few TVs hanging from the ceiling (with only a few channels, mostly cricket/sports channels or Sky News), and more and more space (e.g. the former "stretching" area) is now taken up with classes and personal trainers with their students. Most evenings, the gym is a zoo, even past 8PM. There is now an open premises downstairs in the building (a former stationery shop) which is for sale. WHY doesn't VA buy this property and EXPAND the gym!?!! We clearly need more space, and some investment (using the ever-higher fees, from ever-increasing numbers of members!) to improve our gym. Please!
