So disappointed with Virgin Active Meyersdal

I opened my contract at Virgin Active on the 14th of August. I had activated my Vitality on Discovery in May for only this exact benefit, the cheap monthly rate with Virgin Active, as I can't afford an expensive gym contract. Everything went well and I was happy with the service, I could start gym immediately. First two months payments (I thought) was the joining fee divided into two instalments. As time came for the third payment, which I was looking forward to as it would now be the low fee, I got the sms stating a large amount, same as the two months prior. I phoned them immediately, leaving a msg for the sales person who helped me, only to wait two days for a call back (my cheque account sitting in the minus as I did not budget for this amount) I had to phone them back again. I warned them that I would send the debit order back and meet with them that night. When I got there they told me my Vitality was never activated on their system, that I had to go ask them on the 1st of September to activate it and that I now still need to pay the joining fee!?!? I left there in tears, I don't have money like that after already paying R878 toward this contract... I have no idea what to do.
