I went to Stuttafords to purchase a particular Le Creuset grill skillet, which the Sandton Le Creuset store did not have in stock. I found what I was looking for on display, and it was the last of its kind available. I asked the assistant (Jane) for the price, as none was marked.
There was no 'Stuttafords barcode' according to her, so she could not scan a price. To her credit, she tried calling 3 branches to find out pricing for this particular item. After having no luck, she suggested I come back on Tuesday, when the usual attendant in homeware was available. This was ludicrous, as Sandton City is a bit out of my way. Jane called the manager, Ayesha, to resolve the situation.
There were many similar items for sale at the time (26cm grill skillet), and I offered to pay the same price. Ayesha refused to sell it to me, saying that it would have to be head-office's decision on Tuesday, or the attendant that was off today. I left in disgust, buying the same item at the same price an hour later from a Le Creuset store on the way home.
What use is it if there is nobody in the store willing to make a decision to resolve an issue? Don't put items for sale unless you want to sell them!
