I opened a new account with Foschini as I wanted to purchase a large amount of clothing at once. I made several purchases for a large value on 17 March and used a few of the stores in the group, my till slip stated that I still had credit available. I attempted to use this today and was unable to do so as my account was blocked. Complaint 1: no communication to that effect was sent to me until I attempted to purchase. Complaint 2: I am told by the call centre that the reason for the block is the "irregular purchases" i.e purchasing for a large amount from more than one store. Isn't the point of an account to purchase for a large amount at once? I now have to fax all sorts of documents to the H/O to use the account again. Why can't they simply confirm with me (on the number they have verified on their records) that I made the purchases? This is what the banks do for larger sums! I don't have the time or facilities to fax additional documents now and am no longer even interested in using the account in future. I feel as though I (the customer) am being treated as a criminal. I would discourage anyone from opening a store account with Foschini; rather get a credit card from the bank.
