CNA
2nd Hand goods/Demo's sold as new

I purchased a "new" laptop on 12 Jan from CNA Somerset Mall. Upon switching the machine on at home I found it had a user by the name of DEAN loaded and the "new" laptop was password protected. During the subsequent conversation with the manager I was told it should not happen, models that was on the floor was some times sold, but the memory would be cleared beforehand. Models on the floor are not new machines, they are demo's and may not be sold as new. I was offered another machine, which turned out to be a demo. I insisted on a new machine which was found in the Tyger Valley branch. On 13 Jan I uplifted the machine from that branch, making sure similar tactics were not used by this sales assistant ie opening the box quickly behind the counter to verify everything is in the box, thus breaking seals. I asked the manager of Tyger valley if there would be any discount for time and petrol, driving from Simon's Town to rectify their mistake. I was told no, but CNA does apologise. Sorry does not cost CNA anything, but if the machine's memory had been cleared and I did not know anything about computers I might have accepted a used machine being sold to me as new. Be careful not to fall in the same trap.
