Let's claims lightning to get out of fixing faults

I sent my Marantz SR5007 receiver in for repairs in December. Repair Collection Slip: 0196/00001408. The hdmi output started acting up with first 1 input not working culminating in a total loss of video a few days later. According to Vincent from Dion Wired Hyde Park the workshop claims the the unit was struck by lightning. Given the fact that I have a very expensive AV setup I made it a priority to get surge protection and as an extra precaution I remove all of my electronics in case of a lightning storm. I don't see how lightning could be the cause of the issue as the issue played out over several days and none of my other equipment that was plugged into the same circuit is affected, only the hdmi on the receiver. As I told Vincent no one can 100% prove that lightning caused the issue. They now want me to pay R8000 to have the unit fixed... You have to be kidding me, R8000 to repair the hdmi on a R10 000 receiver? Vincent now says he is awaiting a technical report from the workshop. I am guessing it will claim lightning as an excuse to get out of fixing my unit.
I certainly will never be a Dion Wired customer again and I emplore anyone reading this not to trust them eithe
