I purchased an Acer 5733 laptop from Makro which was advertised to have "3 year on-site warranty". The warranty was a deciding factor when I made the purchase as I could have opted for a laptop with lower specifications but which would only have the usual 1 year limited warranty. Upon opening the packaging and reading the sealed warranty booklet I noted that it only made mention of a 1 year limited warranty. Concerned I immediately took the warranty booklet with me to the nearest Makro to enquire. I was advised by a sales person that I need to register the laptop with Acer and would then see that it is covered by the advertised 3 year on-site warranty. I registered the laptop with Acer as advised but did not see any warranty information. I then emailed Acer to establish what the warranty is. Acer replied that the laptop is only covered by a 1 year limited warranty and that Makro would be responsible for any additional warranty period. As a regular international traveler this means that I will be unable to rely on Acer's support should I experience a problem while out of the country. I would not have purchased the laptop had I know it was not a manufacturer (Acer) warranty.
